Donald Trump’s Facebook and Instagram accounts will be reinstated after a two-year hiatus in the wake of the Jan. 6 insurrection.

Facebook parent meta It said in a blog post on Wednesday that it would add “new guardrails” to ensure there were no “repeated offenders” violating its rules.

Trump posts further infringing content, the content will be removed and suspended for between one month and two years, depending on the severity of the infringement.

Responding to Meta’s decision, the former US president said: “FACEBOOK, which has lost billions of dollars in value since your favorite president ‘removed’ me, just announced that they are going to reinstate my account.

“Something like this should never happen again to a sitting president, or anyone else who doesn’t deserve retribution!”

He added, “Thank you for the social fact of doing such an incredible job. Your growth is amazing and your future is unlimited!!!”

Mr. Trump was suspended on January 7, the day after the deadly 2021 insurrection.

The comment prompted other social media companies to take similar steps.

But he was recently brought back on Twitter after Elon Musk took over the company, though he hasn’t tweeted on the platform yet.

Mr Trump has been using his own, much smaller site, Truth Social, which he launched after being banned from Twitter.

Earlier this month, a confidant of the former president revealed this Mr. Trump may start tweeting again soon.

Advisers to his 2024 presidential campaign have been brainstorming ideas for what should be his first position, according to NBC News.

“Maybe Trump will return to Twitter. It’s just a matter of how and when,” said a Republican, who spoke on condition of anonymity to discuss private conversations with Mr. Trump about returning to the platform.

He’s been talking about it for weeks, but Trump is speaking for Trump, so it’s anyone’s guess what he’ll do or say or when.
