Two people have been killed in a knife attack on a train in Germany, according to media reports.

German news agency dpa reported that a man stabbed several people on a train traveling from Kiel to Hamburg.

The Bild daily reported that officers arrested a suspect following the attack, which took place as the train was arriving at Brokstedt station.

The attack resulted in injuries, while the police said that a preliminary investigation indicated that seven people were injured.

The dpa news agency reported that the interior minister of the state of Schleswig-Holstein, Sabine Sötterlein-Wack, later said two people were killed and five wounded in the attack, which took place around 3pm local time.

The news agency said that the Brokstedt train station was closed for several hours while the police continued their investigation.

Police have not yet released any information on the identity of the suspect and said his possible motives are under investigation.
