At least one person was killed and several others injured in a knife attack on a church in southern Spain.
The Interior Ministry said in a statement that a suspect had been arrested following the incident.
Spain’s National Police told Sky News the person killed was a church worker, while a priest was seriously injured in the attack.
The man, described by local media as carrying either a machete or a samurai sword, allegedly attacked churchgoers in San Lorenzo parish in Algeciras, a port city in the southern province of Cadiz.
The ministry said the victim was killed outside the San Isidro church while the other person was injured inside the church.
“The facts are being investigated and analyzed, but it is not yet possible to determine the nature of the attack,” he added.
The ministry said in a statement.
A police spokesperson said the incident was under investigation and they could not determine a motive for the attack at this stage.
Local media claimed that the parish priest, who was among the injured, was in serious condition, while El Mundo newspaper reported that four people were injured in the attack.
