Channel 4 has released the first images of a two-part film that explores Wagata Christie’s legal battle.
Bafta award-winning actress Chanel Cresswell, portrayed as Coleen Rooney, is pictured sitting on the court, in the first look at Vardy V Rooney: A Courtroom Drama.
Natalia Tena known as Nymphadora Tonks in Harry Potter, plays Rebecca Vardy, and is seen wearing dark sunglasses and surrounded by reporters.
Channel 4 said its film, which is due for release in December, “recreates the high drama and high stakes defamation case of the High Court” based on court transcripts.
He also imagines the “huge impact on the lives of the two women at its core”.
For pairs of Rooney and Vardy, former Manchester United midfielder Dion Lloyd plays the role, while Marton Nagyszukulyai plays current Leicester City striker Jamie Vardy.
Dubbed # Agatha Christie When the case was first revealed on social media in 2019, the case made headlines around the world.
At trial this summer, Vardy, 40, has lost a defamation battle against Rooney, 36, via a social media post after a Supreme Court judge found it “largely true”.
In the post, which went viral in October 2019, Rooney said she had a “stinging operation” for months and accused Vardy of leaking “false stories” about her private life to the press.
Her investigative efforts saw her name “Wagata Christie,” a reference to the famous mystery writer Agatha Christie and the term for the wives and girlfriends of athletes (wags).
In October, a judge ruled so Vardy must pay 90% of Rooney’s legal costs After a libel trial – and the bill could be around £1.5m.
