A man has been charged with killing a mother and her two daughters after a fire in Nottingham.

Fatuma Haidara And her children – Fatima, three, and Naima, one, died in hospital after the fire at their Clifton home on Sunday.

Nottinghamshire Police said on Thursday that Jimmy Barrow, 31, has been charged with murder.

A joint police and shooting investigation concluded that the fire was started deliberately.

Ms Hydara and her daughters were taken to Queen’s Medical Center after a fire broke out at Fairisle Close in the early hours of Sunday, with the sisters pronounced dead in hospital.

Police said the 28-year-old mother was placed on life support, but died on Tuesday morning.

Barrow, of Fairisle Close, will remain in overnight detention to appear at Nottingham Magistrates Court on Friday.

Assistant Chief Constable Rob Griffin, of Nottinghamshire Police, said: “Our thoughts remain with the family at this incredibly painful time, as well as the communities affected by these most tragic incidents.

“The grief this family has experienced is incomprehensible.”

He said large teams of investigators are “working relentlessly” alongside specialized research units and forensic experts to understand the full circumstances behind the fire.

“After these investigations, we filed three charges against one of the suspects with murder,” he said, adding that the officers are doing their best to achieve justice for the mother and children.

Ms. Haidara’s uncle, Daouda Dibba, speaking on behalf of the family, told reporters on Thursday: “We have lost a beautiful soul, very, very beautiful.

“Fatumata is an incredible person, she wouldn’t even hurt a fly.

“She wouldn’t hurt anyone in her life. It’s really hard.”

Another uncle, Boubacar Debba, added, “Fatoumata is her mother’s best friend. This is the main thing I’m fighting with, how will my sister survive without her daughter and only grandchildren. It’s very tragic.”

Abubakar Darami, the children’s father and Ms. Hydara’s husband, received support from relatives and scores of members of the Gambian community as he visited the place to pray for his family.

On Wednesday, the 40-year-old released his own statement, saying: “It is with great sadness that we have lost Fatoumata and our two daughters in such a tragic way.

“Fatumata lived a short but beautiful and fulfilling life. Fatumata was a former volunteer worker, a very happy, bubbly woman.

“My in-laws and I were left without nieces, grandchildren and nieces. I will miss my family terribly.”

Nottinghamshire Police earlier said it had 40 detectives working alongside specialist officers to investigate the murders.

Police have been searching nearby parks and driveways near the apartment in the Clifton area of ​​the city and are continuing to collect CCTV and witness statements.
